Schizoaffective disorder

Schizoaffective disorder is a mental illness characterized by symptoms of both schizophrenia and mood disorders (such as depression or bipolar disorder). People with schizoaffective disorder experience hallucinations, delusions, disorganized speech and behavior, as well as periods of depression, mania, or mixed episodes.

The symptoms of the schizoaffective disorder typically begin in the late teenage years or early adulthood, and the disorder affects both men and women equally. The exact cause of the schizoaffective disorder is not known, but it is thought to be related to a combination of genetic, environmental, and psychological factors.

Treatment for schizoaffective disorder usually involves a combination of medications (such as antipsychotics and mood stabilizers) and psychotherapy. With proper treatment and ongoing care, many people with schizoaffective disorder are able to manage their symptoms and lead fulfilling lives.
