International Parkinson and Movement Disorders Society
Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (MDS-NPH) Study Group
The International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS) has established the Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) Study Group to advance research and understanding of this condition.
Goals and Focus Areas
- Standardizing Assessments: Addressing the lack of standardized diagnostic procedures, including cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunting tests, neuroimaging, and gait analysis.
- Collaborative Research: Promoting international research efforts to explore CSF biomarkers, surgical outcomes, and clinical trials.
- Interdisciplinary Communication: Facilitating dialogue among neurologists, neuropsychologists, neurosurgeons, and scientists to enhance understanding and treatment of NPH.
- Chair: Joachim Krauss
- Co-Chair: Alfonso Fasano
The group has published critical reviews, such as “Clinical Features of Idiopathic Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus: Critical Review of Objective Findings,” to shed light on the condition's clinical characteristics.
