High-grade glioma prognosis

5-year survival rates of 30.9% for WHO grade III glioma and 6.6% for WHO grade IV glioma.

see Glioblastoma prognosis.

Anaplastic astrocytoma outcome

In pretreated high-grade gliomas, right hemisphere lesions are associated with reduced HRQoL scores in most functional domains except communication ability, compared to tumors of the left hemisphere. These relationships are mainly observed for T2/FLAIR lesions involving structural and functional networks in the right hemisphere. The data suggest that sparing the right hemisphere from treatment-related tissue damage may improve HRQoL in glioma patients 1)

Diagnosis and treatment of high-grade glioma with leptomeningeal disease are challenging. Aggressive control of ICP followed by early initiation of standard concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) seems to help improve symptoms. However, despite aggressive treatment, the prognosis is poor. A multicenter trial and research may be necessary to create a standardized protocol for this disease 2).
