Hemicraniectomy Indications
Hemicraniectomy is a decompressive surgery used to remove a large bone flap to allow edematous brain tissue to bulge extracranially.
Decompressive hemicraniectomy (DC) and duroplasty after malignant brain infarction or traumatic brain injury is a common surgical procedures. Usually, preserved bone flaps are reimplanted after the resolution of brain swelling. Alloplast cranioplasties are seldom directly implanted due to the risk of wound-healing disorders.
