tumors (in order of decreasing frequency)
pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma (PXA)
cysts
other
herpes simplex encephalitis: usually some bilateral changes, and different presentation
limbic encephalitis: usually some bilateral changes, and different presentation
mesial temporal sclerosis (MTS)
If cortical elsewhere consider:
pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma (PXA)
