Abnormally elevated serum AFP may occur in ovarian cancer, stomach cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, pancreas cancer, as well as in cirrhosis or hepatitis and in the majority of gravid women carrying a fetus with an open neural tube defect;
Serum AFP>500ng/ml usually means primary liver tumor.
