Observational study derived from registry (or “registry-based studies”) are an important part of the research armamentarium alongside interventional study, such as randomized controlled trials (RCTs) or pragmatic trials, and retrospective studies, such as studies derived exclusively from administrative claims data. Each of these study designs has strengths and limitations, and the selection of a study design should be guided by the research questions of interest.
