There are two classes of acid‐suppression medication: proton‐pump inhibitors (PPIs), which stop acid secretion by inhibiting proton pumps located in the canalicular membrane of the parietal cell; and histamine‐2 receptor antagonists (H2RAs), which target histamine, one of the primary regulators of acid secretion.
