Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene with numerous applications. The best-known brand name of PTFE-based formulas is Teflon™ by Chemours. Chemours is a spin-off of DuPont, which initially discovered the compound in 1938.
