Osteoma

Osteomas are the most common primary bone tumor of the calvaria. They are benign, slow-growing lesions, that occur commonly in the cranial vault, mastoid and paranasal air sinuses, and the mandible. Lesions within air sinuses may present as recurrent sinusitis. More common in females, the highest incidence is in the 6th decade.

Triad of Gardner's syndrome: multiple cranial osteomas (of the calvaria, sinuses, and mandible), colonic polyposis, and soft-tissue tumors.

Typically, it shows a very hyperdense osseous lesion on computed tomography (CT) scan and low-intensity change on T2-weighted image on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

see Osteoid osteoma.

see Intracranial osteoma.

Paranasal sinus osteoma (Frontal sinus osteoma)

Consists of osteoid tissue within osteoblastic tissue, surrounded by reactive bone. Difficult to distinguish from fibrous dysplasia.

Localized increased density or hyperostosis of the calvaria.
