Maxillary sinusitis is an inflammation or infection of the maxillary sinuses, which are located in the cheeks on either side of the nose. The condition is typically caused by a viral or bacterial infection and can be acute or chronic.
Symptoms of maxillary sinusitis may include pain or pressure in the cheeks or teeth, headache, nasal congestion or discharge, cough, fever, and fatigue. In some cases, maxillary sinusitis can also cause a bad taste in the mouth or a reduced sense of smell.
Treatment for maxillary sinusitis may involve antibiotics for bacterial infections, pain relievers, and decongestants to help relieve symptoms. In some cases, a doctor may also recommend nasal irrigation or steam therapy to help clear the sinuses. In more severe cases, surgery may be necessary to drain the sinuses and remove any blockages.
