Idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia
Trigeminal neuralgia with no apparent structural cause.
Classic trigeminal neuralgia (TN) involves sharp, shooting pain in any trigeminal nerve distribution, whereas atypical TN presents with constant aching, numbness or burning that can appear with classic features, leading to a mixed presentation.
Trigeminal neuralgia pathogenesis is uncertain. What is nominated as typically TN is idiopathic, but may be due to a structural lesion.
