Furosemide
Furosemide has also been used to treat IIH.
It has been well documented that furosemide (Lasix®) can lower intracranial pressure.
It appears to work by both diuresis and reducing sodium transport into the brain. We initiate furosemide at a dose of 20 mg p.o. b.i.d. and gradually increase the dose, if necessary, to a maximum of 40 mg p.o. t.i.d. Potassium supplementation is given as needed.
