Cost saving

The potential cost savings from outpatient operations are only meaningful if their safety profile is at least equivalent to that of inpatient care. An increased risk of perioperative morbidity or downstream complications or readmissions could erase any immediate financial gains. Studies have previously shown faster postoperative recovery and improved satisfaction with ambulatory surgery centers (ASC), in general 1).
