The ophthalmic segment of the internal carotid artery, running from the distal dural ring to the posterior communicating artery (PCOM), can give rise to aneurysms 1).

A 1- or 2-mm segment of naked internal carotid artery lies between the investment of the carotid cistern and the dura of the cavernous sinus.

Ophthalmic artery.
