In 2012, the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association published updated evidence-based guidelines on the comprehensive management of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH), including the management of cerebral vasospasm and delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI).
The American Heart Association statement on “Palliative and End-of-Life Care in Stroke” discusses palliative care, and it is recommended that in the absence of known preexisting DNR wishes, the decision to withdraw support not be made until at least the second full day of hospitalization after ICH (Level II).
