The pineal region is a exceptional intracranial epidermoid cyst. Harvey Williams Cushing was the first to report the pineal localization of the epidermoid cyst in 1928.


In 1928, Cushing and Bailey classified cavernous malformations as a solid subtype of hemangioblastomas 1).


They distinguished meningothelial, fibroblastic, and angiomatous subtypes, and to this day allocation to subtype is based solely on histological findings.
