Edema can be isolated to a small area or affect the entire body. Swelling is considered one of the five characteristics of inflammation; along with pain, heat, redness, and loss of function. ---- Inflammation and innate [[immune system]] play a central role in [[cancer]]s, including those affecting the [[central nervous system]] (CNS).
