Arachidonic Acid, the primary n-6FA in the brain, is metabolized by cyclooxygenase (COX) and lipoxygenase (LOX) enzymes to pro-inflammatory eicosanoids that enhance vascular permeability, increase local blood flow, increase infiltration of leukocytes, and enhance production of proinflammatory cytokines 1).
