Application
The quality of being usable for a particular purpose or in a special way; relevance.
The term application can have slightly different meanings depending on the context, but generally, it refers to:
🔹 In Technology / Computing: An application (or app) is a type of software program designed to perform specific tasks for a user. These tasks can range from word processing or browsing the internet, to analyzing brain activity or controlling medical devices.
Examples: Microsoft Word (word processing), Google Maps (navigation), Neuropathological Function Estimations (neuroscience research).
🔹 In Research / Science: An application refers to the use or implementation of a method, theory, or tool in a specific domain or to solve a particular problem.
Example: “The application of this computational tool to Alzheimer’s disease provides insight into neuronal excitability.”
→ Here, “application” means putting the tool into action in the context of Alzheimer’s research.
