Vertebral compression fracture treatment

In the majority of cases, the method of treatment is percutaneous vertebroplasty (PV) or kyphoplasty (PK).

The transpedicular approach in percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) is a well-established approach for the treatment of vertebral compression fractures (VCFs).

VCFs harbored 1.11% of unexpected malignancy. During the vertebroplasty, concomitant transpedicular vertebral biopsy is a safe and useful procedure for distinguishing non-malignant from malignant compression fractures, especially in diagnosing unsuspected malignancy 1).

Vertebroplasty for medically refractory vertebral compression fractures (VCF) may offer sustained improvement in pain and function. The procedure is associated with low morbidity and mortality 2).
