The ventriculostomy is a surgical opening into a cerebral ventricle for drainage of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). It has been the most life-saving measure in managing hydrocephalus and elevated intracranial pressure (ICP). This procedure can be life-saving, providing immediate relief in conditions such as traumatic brain injury, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and other causes of acute hydrocephalus 1).
