Uremic neuropathy

This occurs in chronic renal failure. Early symptoms include calf cramps (“Charlie horses”), dysesthesia in feet (similar to painful diabetic neuropathy) and “restless legs.” Achilles reflexes are lost. A stocking sensory loss is followed later by LE weakness that starts distally and ascends. The offending toxin is not known. Dialysis or renal transplantation relieves the symptoms.
