Tortuosity is a property of curve being tortuous (twisted; having many turns). There have been several attempts to quantify this property.
see Middle cerebral artery tortuosity.
see Tortuous vertebral artery.
Blood vessel tortuosity may play an important role in the development of vessel abnormalities such as aneurysms.
The greater intracranial arterial tortuosity in Koreans with vascular risk factors may in part explain the higher prevalence of intracranial artery atherosclerosis (ICAS) in Asians than in whites. Further studies are required to prove these preliminary findings 1).
