TIE2 a tyrosine kinase receptor of the Tie family. Receptor for angiopoietin 1. Expressed almost exclusively in endothelial cells. May constitute the earliest mammalian endothelial cell lineage marker. Appears to be critical for endothelial cell-smooth muscle cell communication in venous morphogenesis. TEK is closely related to the TIE receptor tyrosine kinase.
Findings establish that simultaneous Tie 2 activation and Angiopoietin 2 inhibition form a powerful therapeutic strategy to elicit a favorable tumor microenvironment and enhanced delivery of a chemotherapeutic agent into tumors 1).
