In genetics and biochemistry, sequencing means determining the primary structure (sometimes falsely called a primary sequence) of an unbranched biopolymer. Sequencing results in a symbolic linear depiction known as a sequence that succinctly summarizes much of the atomic-level structure of the sequenced molecule.
Direct sequencing means that the letters of the genetic code are read directly, as if with a magnifying glass.
