CTscan

Sometimes necessary when U/S is not readily available, or in complicated cases where anatomy is difficult to deduce from U/S images. Many ICUs have portable CTscans available which obviates need for patient transport.

Rapid sequence MRI

Pros: Eliminates the risk of ionizing radiation associated with CT scan.

Cons: Requires moving the infant from the neonatal ICU to the radiology suite.
