Type

I [[Cerebellar convexity meningioma]] lateral tentorial Extension Tentorium, transverse, sigmoid sinuses

II [[Cerebellopontine angle meningioma]] - [[Petrous ridge]], IAC

III [[Jugular foramen meningioma]] - Cerebellomedullary angle, internal jugular vein, extracranial

IV [[Petroclival meningioma]] - Upper 2/3 clivus, cavernous sinus, Meckel's cave, petrous ridge

V [[Foramen magnum meningioma]] - Lower 1/3 clivus, C1_ 2 area

VI Unclassified - Entire clivus, mid and lower clivus, other types

These six different subtypes of posterior fossa meningiomas differ in their localization, natural history, required surgical technique, and outcome. These subtypes include cerebellar convexity, cerebellopontine angle, petroclival, tentorial, foramen magnum, and jugular foramen meningiomas.

subdivided [[posterior fossa meningioma]]s into four groups: 

1. [[Tentorial meningioma]]s are those located under the surface of the tentorium cerebelli; 

2. [[Clival meningioma]]s proceed from upper third of the clivus bone in the direction of the middle cranial fossa or the direction of the brainstem; 

3. [[Cerebellopontine angle meningioma]] arise from the medial portion of the petrous bone; 

4. [[Foramen magnum meningioma]]s arise at or near the anterior rim of the foramen
