====== Ophthalmic artery aneurysm epidemiology ====== [[Ophthalmic artery aneurysm]] is the most common type of [[paraclinoid aneurysm]]. The incidence of [[ophthalmic artery aneurysm]]s is somewhere between 0.5% and 11% of all [[intracranial aneurysm]]s ((Day A L. Aneurysms of the ophthalmic segment. A clinical and anatomical analysis. J Neurosurg. 1990;72(5):677–691.)) ((Yasargil M G, Gasser J C, Hodosh R M, Rankin T V. Carotid-ophthalmic aneurysms: direct microsurgical approach. Surg Neurol. 1977;8(3):155–165.)). It is a marked female predominance (7:1) and high incidence of [[multiple intracranial aneurysm]]s (45%) within this population ((Day A L. Aneurysms of the ophthalmic segment. A clinical and anatomical analysis. J Neurosurg. 1990;72(5):677–691.)). Unlike usual ophthalmic artery aneurysms, which arise from the junction of the ICA trunk and ophthalmic artery, an ophthalmic artery trunk aneurysm is extremely rare ((Meyerson L, Lazar SJ. Intraorbital aneurysm of the ophthalmic artery. Br J Ophthalmol. 1971 Mar;55(3):199-204. PubMed PMID: 5575224; PubMed Central PMCID: PMC1208221. )) ((Raitta C. Ophthalmic artery aneurysm causing optic atrophy and enlargement of the optic foramen. Br J Ophthalmol. 1968 Sep;52(9):707-9. PubMed PMID: 5725171; PubMed Central PMCID: PMC506674. )).
