====== Occipital neurectomy ======

The [[occipital nerve]] usually pierces the cervical muscles ≈ 2.5 cm lateral to the midline, just below the [[inion]]. Palpation or Doppler localization of the pulse of the accompanying greater [[occipital artery]] sometimes helps to locate the nerve. However, relief only occurs in ≈ 50%, and recurrence, usually within a year, is common.
