Indications for [[Jugular Venous Oxygen Saturation]] or [[PbtO2]] monitoring include the need for augmented [[hyperventilation]] (pCO2 = 20–25) to control [[ICP]]. Parameters related to the [[oxygen]] content of the blood in the [[jugular vein]]s are global in nature and are insensitive to focal pathology. Requires retrograde [[placement]] of the [[catheter]] near the origin of the [[internal jugular vein]] at the base of the [[skull]].
