A technique whereby [[radioactive]] [[implant]]s are used to deliver locally high doses of [[radiation]] directly to [[tumor]]s while exposing the nearby normal [[brain]] to less toxic doses. At present, the numbers are too small and the follow-up too short to determine the efficacy of interstitial [[brachytherapy]]

Interstitial brachytherapy (IB) may reduce the rate of [[tumor growth]], but it rarely produces clinical improvement. Patients are generally not considered for IB unless their [[Karnofsky performance score]] is ≥ 70.
