At present, the numbers are too small and the follow-up too short to determine the efficacy of interstitial [[brachytherapy]] ((Bernstein M, Laperriere N, Leung P, et al. Interstitial Brachytherapy for Malignant Brain Tumors: Preliminary Results. Neurosurgery. 1990; 26:371–380)). Interstitial brachytherapy (IB) may reduce the rate of [[tumor growth]], but it rarely produces clinical improvement. Patients are generally not considered for IB unless their [[Karnofsky performance score]] is ≥ 70.
