Tissue death ([[necrosis]]) caused by a local lack of [[oxygen]], due to an obstruction of the tissue's blood supply.[[Myocardial infarction]]

The resulting lesion is referred to as an [[infarct]] (from the Latin infarctus, "stuffed into").
