====== Hippocampal region ======

The [[entorhinal cortex]] (EC), located in the parahippocampal gyrus, is considered to be part of the hippocampal region because of its anatomical connections. 

Visualization of hippocampal internal architecture (HIA) may be improved at [[7 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging]]. HIA asymmetry is a significant predictor of laterality of seizure onset in TLE patients and has a similar predictive value as hippocampal volume asymmetry, however, HIA asymmetry at 7 T does not have extra value in determining epilepsy lateralization and neither does predict surgical outcomes

[[Uncinate seizures]] originating in the inferior medial temporal lobe, usually in the hippocampal region. May produce olfactory hallucinations (kakosmia or cacosmia: the perception of bad odors where none exist).
