====== Hemicraniectomy Indications ======


Hemi[[craniectomy]] is a [[decompressive surgery]] used to remove a large bone flap to allow [[edema]]tous [[brain tissue]] to bulge extracranially.

Decompressive hemicraniectomy (DC) and [[duroplasty]] after malignant brain infarction or [[traumatic brain injury]] is a common surgical procedures. Usually, preserved bone flaps are reimplanted after the resolution of brain swelling. Alloplast cranioplasties are seldom directly implanted due to the risk of wound-healing disorders.
