There are two types of differential pressure valves:

Fixed pressure valves have been used successfully for years, but necessitate shunt revision when the patient’s pressure/flow requirements change. 

With [[adjustable pressure valve]]s, the pressure/flow performance level setting can be changed after implantation, potentially avoiding the cost and trauma of shunt revision surgery.
