====== Dermal sinus complications ====== [[Dermal sinus]] are a potential [[pathway]] for [[infection]]s within the [[dura mater]], and may result in [[meningitis]] and/or an [[abscess]]. The contents of the dermal sinus causing sterile (chemical) meningitis may also irritate the skin. If the tract expands into the thecal sac (the sac that contains the spinal cord) to form a cyst, the mass may appear as a tethered cord. In these circumstances bladder dysfunction usually occurs. see [[Intramedullary spinal cord abscess]]. ===== Case reports ===== García Galera et al. present a case of a dermoid cyst associated with an infected dermal sinus and posterior development of [[cerebellar abscess]]es and hydrocephalus ((García Galera A, Martínez León MI, Pérez da Rosa S, Ros López B. [Cerebellar abscesses secondary to infection of an occipital dermal sinus]. Radiologia. 2013 Sep;55(5):443-6. doi: 10.1016/j.rx.2011.01.012. Epub 2011 Nov 29. Spanish. PubMed PMID: 22130510. )).
