When [[Enterobacteriaceae]] develop resistance to the group of antibiotics called [[carbapenem]]s, the germs are called carbapenem-resistant [[Enterobacteriaceae]] (CRE).

In some cases, CRE is resistant to all available [[antibiotic]]s.
