====== 1913 ====== [[1912]]-[[1914]] The Department of Neurosurgery at [[Brigham and Women's Hospital]] (BWH) is where American neurosurgery was founded by Dr. [[Harvey Williams Cushing]] in [[1913]]. ---- Pituitary [[metastases]] (PM) is a rare complication of advanced malignancy, first reported by L. Benjamin in [[1857]] as a case of [[melanoma]] spread to the pituitary identified in an [[autopsy]] ((Chiang MF, Brock M, Patt S. [[Pituitary metastases]]. Neurochirurgia (Stuttg). 1990 Jul;33(4):127-31. doi: 10.1055/s-2008-1053571. PMID: 2203980.)) and later in [[1913]], [[Cushing]] ((Cushing H. Concerning [[diabetes insipidus]] and the polyuria of the hypophysial origin. Boston Med Surg J. 1913;168(25):901–10.)) reported this unique phenomenon as the cause of [[diabetes insipidus]].
