Under the microscope, they appear round (cocci), and form in grape-like clusters. The Staphylococcus genus includes at least 40 species. Of these, nine have two subspecies and one has three subspecies. Most are harmless and reside normally on the skin and mucous membranes of humans and other organisms. Found worldwide, they are a small component of soil microbial flora. In [[skull osteomyelitis]], [[staphylococcus]] is the most common organism, with [[Staphylococcus aureus]] predominating, followed by [[Staphylococcus epidermidis]]. In [[neonate]]s, [[Escherichia coli]] may be the infecting organism. ===== Staphylococcus aureus ===== see [[Staphylococcus aureus]]. ===== Staphylococcus epidermidis ===== [[Staphylococcus epidermidis]]. ====Coagulase negative staphylococcus==== see [[Coagulase negative staphylococcus]] staphylococcus.txt Last modified: 2024/06/07 02:58by 127.0.0.1
