El síndrome HELLP es una complicación obstétrica severa considerada como una variedad de preeclampsia. Esta condición aparece durante la etapa tardía del embarazo y en ocasiones después del parto.

La abreviatura HELLP es proveniente del inglés basada en algunas de sus características:
Anemia hemolítica, (del inglés Hemolytic anemia)
Elevación de enzimas hepáticas, (del inglés Elevated Liver enzyme)
Trombocitopenia (del inglés Low Platelet count)

La hemorragia intracerebral es muy rara y a menudo fatal (Hong y col., 2011).

El reconocimiento oportuno de las complicaciones hemorrágicas intracraneales son particularmente importantes (Yokota y col., 2009).

Se ha asociado con vasoespasmo secundario a hemorragia cerebral (Gliemroth y col., 2000; Hashiguchi y col., 2001; Knopp y col., 2003).

Además de la hemorragia cerebral y subdural se ha descrito la hemorragia subaracnoidea (Yoshikane y col., 2013).
