It is often used in medical contexts to describe illnesses that follow a pattern of recurring episodes or symptoms after periods of stability. For example: Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis (RRMS): A form of multiple sclerosis characterized by episodes of new or worsening symptoms (relapses), followed by periods of partial or complete recovery (remissions).
