It is derived from [[mesoderm]]. The other two meningeal layers are the [[pia mater]] and the [[arachnoid mater]]. The dura surrounds the [[brain]] and the [[spinal cord]] and is responsible for keeping in the [[cerebrospinal fluid]]. The arterial blood supply to the dura mater is rich, complex and is derived from both the internal and external carotid systems. Endovascular management of a variety of intracranial diseases necessitates a thorough understanding of the dural arterial network ((Bhogal P, Makalanda HL, Brouwer PA, Gontu V, Rodesch G, Mercier P, Söderman M.
