Infectious or noninfectious inflammatory, vascular, traumatic, and neoplastic processes are the principal causes. Examples of specific entities that may result in cavernous sinus syndrome are myriad and include carotid artery aneurysms, carotid-cavernous fistulas (C-C fistulas), tumors, and Tolosa-Hunt syndrome.
