[[Anterior Sacral Meningocele]] is an uncommon congenital [[abnormality]]

[[Sacral meningocele]]s represent approximately 20% of all [[meningocele]]s

183 cases of anterior sacral meningocele were reported in the postnatal literature from 1837 to 1991. A Medline search from 1990 to April 2000 revealed other 24 cases.

anterior sacral meningocele involves mostly females with a reported incidence of 79%

It represents 2.8% of all [[presacral tumor]]s in females
((Lee R.A and Symmonds R.E Presacral tumors in the female: Clinical presentation, surgical management, and results. 1988, Obstet. Gynecol. 71; 216 – 220.)).
No case of [[prenatal]] diagnosis was reported.


Most of the cases present in adult age and diagnoses in childhood are rare. 

None of the more than 180 cases of anterior sacral meningocele reported in the past 150 years has been bilateral, and only two have been associated with occult intrasacral meningocele. 

North et al. reported a unique case of bilateral anterior sacral cysts, communicating with the subarachnoid space, associated with occult intrasacral meningeal and perineurial (Tarlov's) cysts, in an asymptomatic woman
